DOCG

Tullum, one of the smallest Italian DOCG,, focuses on a very specific and confined area: Tollo municipality, in the province of Chieti, in Abruzzo. Tullum, the first local DOP (Protected Denomination of Origin) in Abruzzo, was born with the 2008 harvest. Between 2011 and 2013, the Agriculture department of the University of Milan carried out a zoning study that has allowed to further enhance the quality of these areas. Thanks to the study, performed under the supervision of Professor Attilio Scienza, we have been able to shift from the 14 types of DOP Tollum wines to the current 4 wines labelled DOCG Tollum. The study’s scientific outcomes, together with the producers’ commitment and passion have been able totransform Tullum from a DOP to a DOCG in just 10 years. The shift took place on July 4th, 2019, a milestone that has marked the evolution of the wines «Terre Tollesi» or «Tullum» from the appellation of Protected Designation of Origin to the Controlled and Guaranteed Designation of Origin, the highest rank in the quality scale of the Italian wine industry. Such achievement recognizes the work of Tollo’s wine producers, and it rewards thecommitment and passion of a whole territory dedicated to producing the highest quality wines. .
